Pubic and Genital Keloid Scars

Keloid scars typically occur on parts of the body that include face, chest and back. While rare, there are cases where keloid scars grow in the pubic and genital areas of the body.

Athough rare, pubic and genital keloids can have a devastating and negative effect on a patient's self-esteem and social life. As one can imagine, pubic keloid scars can be an embarrassing site on the body.

In females, pubic keloid scars tend to occur in hair bearing areas due to ingrown hairs. These keloids typically occur just above the female vulva. Male pubic keloid scars may also occur in the hair bearing area of the pubic region. However, Dr. Slupchynskyj has also seen keloid scars present themselves following circumcision in African American males. Excision is often necessary as treatment to ensure adequate relief, both physical and psychological, in these cases.

Dr. Slupchynskyj surgically excises and removed pubic and genital keloid scars, closing the incision in a precise and meticulous fashion. Those patients who are candidates for radiation therapy following keloid excision are sent to a specialist for their radiation therapy (12Gy), which is divided into 3 doses: one dose on each consecutive day following removal of the keloid scar.
